Planning Sustainable Schools

K3 Sustainability Solutions partners with California K–12 organizations — county offices of education, school districts, and individual campuses — to develop Climate Action Plans and Sustainability Frameworks that build alignment across LCAP, facilities, and funding strategy. In K–12 climate planning, the gap isn’t policy awareness. It’s alignment. We help build it.

About Us

Sustainability And Climate Planning for California K–12

K3 Sustainability Solutions is an independent California-based consultancy specializing in climate and sustainability planning for K–12 organizations. We work at three levels: county offices of education leading regional coordination, school districts building district-wide frameworks, and individual campuses developing site-level Climate Action Plans.

This multi-level approach is an integrated system. K–12 climate planning is shifting. Programs that used to require separate strategies — facility resilience, school bus electrification, energy upgrades, environmental literacy — increasingly look for the same foundations: a defensible emissions baseline, planning that connects LCAP and facilities, and clear board commitment. Our research has shown the gap isn’t policy awareness. It’s alignment.

Our work is grounded in three core principles:

Accessible — Clear frameworks that meet every organization where they are, removing barriers and making sustainability planning achievable for K–12 communities of all sizes and capacity levels.

Intentional — Strategic planning that prioritizes real-world implementation with policy alignment, turning complex goals into practical roadmaps for lasting change.

Empowering — Positioning every school, district, and county office as an active partner in the process — not just a recipient of a deliverable — because the communities closest to the work are best equipped to sustain it.

We believe every California K–12 community deserves the opportunity to lead in climate action, access concurrent funding streams, and build the operational alignment that sustains long-term resilience.

Alignment unlocks the funding.

What Sets Us Apart

Multi-Level K–12 Expertise

We work where K–12 climate planning actually happens — from individual campuses to school districts to county offices of education. That breadth is rare in this sector, and it’s what lets us speak to alignment as the central planning challenge.

Alignment-Led Strategy

Most K–12 sustainability work treats climate planning as a separate initiative. We treat it as the alignment that makes every other district priority work better — LCAP, facilities, transportation, grant strategy, board governance. Aligned planning unlocks concurrent funding streams and compounding operational savings.

Implementation-Ready Plans

Our frameworks aren’t shelf documents. They’re board-ready, grant-aligned, and built for what districts can actually do in Year 1, Year 3, and Year 5 — with realistic timelines, prioritized strategies, and built-in Quick Win opportunities.
